Entry
Brass signalling lantern with Fresnel lens.
Inside it has a candleholder with a spring to ensure constant height of the flame, and at the back a parabolic mirror. The bottom of the candleholder rests in the closed cylindrical lower part of the lantern, and can be raised by applying air or steam pressure; the flame is then removed from the focus of the lens and the mirror.
