Construction model of a section of the side of a ship, mounted on a rectangular base.
The side of the model consists of the planking, two frames and the ceiling. Between the frames there is a ventilation shaft with a grating, coming out into the funnel-shaped gun port with portlight. The gun port frame is sheathed with brass. The portlight is round with a frosted convex side, countersunk so as not to protrude beyond the wall of the ship.
This model represents a ventilation shaft with sidelight as seen on the 28-gun sloop of war Atalante, built in Flushing from 1842 to 1849 (renamed Prins Maurits der Nederlanden in 1850, guard ship in Flushing from 1869 onwards, decommissioned in 1905).2
Scale (on model) 1:4.
