Margaretha Johanna Weddik Wendel is said to have worn this dress when she wed Baron Hieronymus Nicolaas van Slingelandt in the Nieuwe Kerk in Amsterdam on 25 November 1812. Marrying in white was not yet customary at the time. Brides generally wore light blue, pale yellow or pink gowns, with or without a train.
