Cradle, anoniem, c. 1650 - c. 1700

ebbenhout en ivoor, h 89cm × w 135cm × d 63cm. More details

This cradle is an example of a piece of furniture that was specially made for the staff of the Dutch East India Company and not for export to Europe, like so many other products. The style of its design is Dutch, but the wood, the inlay work, and the carved Hindu figures are completely Asian.
