To coincide with the exhibition at the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam Public Library (OBA) and Instituto Cervantes are partnering to host several cultural activities.


30 October 2019, 18:00 – Opening of the Rembrandt-Velázquez Book Exhibition

A conversation between British historian and Hispanist Sir John Elliott and historian Maurits Ebben from Leiden University on 17th-century art and the history of Spain and the Netherlands. This discussion will be preceded by the opening of an exhibition of books on the art of 17th-century Spanish and Dutch masters. The book exhibition runs until 31 January 2020.

28 November 2019, 19:00 – A talk on Rembrandt-Velázquez. Dutch and Spanish Masters of the 17th Century

This talk brings together the curators of the two major Rembrandt-Velázquez exhibitions staged in 2019. Gregor Weber from the Rijksmuseum and Alejandro Vergara from Museo Nacional del Prado engage in conversation about both of them. They will discuss the parallels and differences between the exhibitions, and how the idea came about for this collaborative project.
