Curriculum Vitae
Hubert Baija is conservator of frames and gilding at the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam since 1990 and senior conservator since 2000. He received his education at the University of Amsterdam and at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam. After a successful career as an artist and illustrator he became a conservator of gilded and polychrome wooden artifacts. He is a Professional Associate of AIC, a founding member of Restauratoren Nederland, and a former co-chair of the ICOM-CC Wood, Furniture and Lacquer working group. He has served on peer review committees, and as an external examiner at MA and PhD levels. Hubert teaches frame history, conservation and historical techniques at the Campbell Center for Historic Preservation Studies, Mount Carroll, IL and at the University of Amsterdam, and provides professional development workshops worldwide.
