E-ticketing for the Rijksmuseum

The Rijksmuseum offers the possibility to order your entrance tickets online and to print your ticket yourself. You will not have to wait in line to purchase a ticket: go directly to the access control where your e-ticket will be scanned. Tickets for discounts can not be ordered yet. It is possible, however, to make online group reservations.

Rembrandt's Night Watch Unravelled

More than 365 years since the Night Watch was completed, the identity of the men portrayed in the portrait has at last been revealed. Dutch historian Bas Dudok van Heel has unravelled the mystery after years of research in archives and inventories of estates. A precise description can now also be made of the great hall of the civic guard building known as Kloveniersdoelen (today’s Doelen Hotel in Amsterdam), the room for which Rembrandt originally painted the Night Watch. Virtual collection of Masterpieces (VCM)

"31 museums from Asia and 31 from Europe have contributed around 1000 masterpieces to the Virtual Collection of Masterpieces (VCM). This web-accessible selection of images and accompanying information on Asian masterpieces from Asian and European museums is a fantastic search tool for people from various levels interested in art and cultural history. The VCM project promotes mutual understanding and appreciation between the peoples of Asia and Europe, specifically through the use of works of art and culture”. The Rijksmuseum contributes 25 masterpieces to the VCM. In addition, the selection includes a magnificent new acquisition: two giant Japanese temple guardians from the 14th century. Cuypers restaurations in the Rijksmuseum’s main building to be seen for the first time

The Rijksmuseum will be opening the doors of the main building's Front Hall every weekend from 19 July to 31 August. Every Saturday and Sunday from 12 to 4 pm, the public will be able to admire the embellishments that have been restored in the Front Hall and the Gallery of Honour in recent years. In August, guided tours will also be given of the museum's library, where Cuypers' embellishments have also been restored. Read more

Rijkswidget now available for any website

The Rijksmuseum has released a new version of the popular 'Rijkswidget', a small computer program that displays a different masterpiece from the Rijksmuseum's collection on your screen every day. The new version now also contains a version for weblogs or Hyves profiles. Read more
