Jan Mostaert (c.1475 - c.1555)Jan Mostaert lived for most of his life in Haarlem and was apprenticed to his fellow townsman Geertgen tot Sint Jans. In 1498, Mostaert married and bought a house in Haarlem. The regent Margaret of Austria appointed him Peintre d'honneurPeintre d'honneur'Honorary painter' was in this case little more than a title. There is no evidence of Mostaert having worked at court in the Southern Netherlands. In this period he was active in Haarlem. in 1518. Mostaert lived to be eighty and died in 1555 or 1556 in his home town. |
